David Rockefeller, Jr. started "Sailors for the Sea" as a nonprofit organization that educates and empowers the boating community to protect and restore our oceans and coastal waters. In 2008, he hired local sailor Dan Pingaro as CEO of Sailors for the Sea.
On May 31, 2009, they launched the "Around the Americas" journey aboard the 64' S/V Ocean Watch, heading north from Seattle. Around the Americas is a 28,000 mile sailing circumnavigation of the American continents with the mission of inspiring, educating and engaging the citizens of the Americas to protect our fragile oceans. Skipper Mark Schrader is joined by former Bay Area resident and sailing writer Herb McCormick on this journey which has taken them across the Northwest Passage, down the east coast of the Americas, around Cape Horn and up the West Coast. Ocean Watch will be visiting the Bay Area on May 26th through June 5th, and will be berthing at the Corinthian Yacht Club on Thursday, June 3rd.
Please join David Rockefeller, Dan Pingaro, Mark Schrader, Herb McCormick and photographer David Thoreson as they share their discoveries from this epic adventure of discovery. Come early, and take a close look at Ocean Watch, too.
Please join us on June 3rd to hear about this epic adventure.
Doors open at 6PM, no-host bar, buffet dinner ($12.50 in advance, $15.00 at the door), talk begins at 7PM (admission cost for this event is $10).
