Master Mariners Wooden Boat Show & Caribbean Barbecue
By Craig Swain
On Sunday the 25th of June the classic old sailing vessels and skiffs of the Bay will again be on display in our harbor. For the past six years the Corinthian Yacht Club has been host to the Master Mariners Benevolent Associations Annual Wooden Boat Show, now also becoming a classic. The Boat Show is the Master Mariner's annual fund-raiser. All profits derived from the Boat Show are distributed to organizations and/or to individuals through sponsorships dedicated to the preservation of traditional vessels, seamanship and maritime education.
All Corinthian members are invited to the join the Master Mariners Saturday evening on the veranda for the buffet Caribbean Barbecue and steel drum music performed by Ashton Craig and his band, Pan Ecstasy. Dancing is traditionally followed by a little limbo under the old boat hook off the gaff sloop, Black Witch.
The show runs from I000 Hours to 1600 Hours Sunday. In addition to some 40 wonderful yachts you see racing in the Master Mariners Regatta held every Memorial Day weekend, many small skiffs will be on display. The Arques School of Traditional Boat Building will bring boats built in their Sausalito boat shop, and students of the school will again offer young people the opportunity to build model boats outside Pneumonia Alley. Guests attending the show will be charged $7.00 admission at the gate. Corinthian members and all children are admitted free of charge. Donations to the Master Mariners Benevolent Foundation are welcome and deductible. The CYC shore boat will be available to shuttle cruising Corinthians to the show from the hook or a CYC mooring upon an early return from the Encinal Yacht Club cruise. The club hoist will not be available for use between 1200 Hours Saturday through 1700 Hours Sunday. See you there!
