Hats off to everyone who contributed to the big success of this years Midwinters series, especially to Staff Commodore Mark Thompson our P.R.O. and Michael Moradzadeh and Race Committee chair and also to the entire race team, recorders, spotters, signalers and computer wizards! Our CYC and CCI staff all worked so hard and we are so fortunate to have them! We had record boats, bar revenues, great bands and fun! Staff Commodore Peter Hogg was presented with a plaque on behalf of the Club for his participation in Steve Fossets record smashing Atlantic crossing aboard Playstation at a fascinating Sunday morning slide/video talk he gave. Thanks, Peter!
Looking over the lineup of cruises for 2002, Cruise Leaders Trip and Jill Ames have come up with a great series promising lots of fun. Glad to see that Benicia is back on and for a Jimmy Buffet Party no less! If you have a boat, definitely plan on making as many as you can and if you dont, come anyway! In a well-established tradition, many asphalt cruisers attend. Some stay at nearby hotels, others drive home after the dinner and party. Or, why not carpool to the cruises?
As this issue of the Telltale goes to press many Corinthians are anticipating a fabulous week aboard Princess new Star Princess in Mexico. Esther and I initiated this as a club-wide open invitation and it has been very well subscribed with 39 shipmates going. We have many special events and fun things planned not to mention being at sea and being warm! Wonderful memories aside, among the best things I have seen come out of these extracurricular trips are the new and strengthened friendships and that makes the Corinthian an even better place. So, the next time you hear about one of these opportunities, go for it! Next issue we will have some highlights.
If you have seen the new clubhouse ramp project progressing, Port Captain Andre Klein and our crew of Mark, Jim, Armando and Pedro are doing a great job. Good planning and great workmanship should give us a ramp that will outlast us all. It appears to be within budget and ahead of schedule. Look for completion in early April.
In your last months billing statements, you all received requests for a $30 contribution to The Corinthian Women. I hope that everyone will fully contribute to this worthwhile club organization. They organize and host many TCW events (like Easter and Santas Party) and make donations such as our shore boat Mermaid, youth sailing scholarships and club project donations such as the remodel of the library/boardroom/managers office. So please give freely.
I dont know about you, but I sure miss our Friday night races. Fortunately, our first race, April 5th, is at hand. Now is the time to get your boats ready. Many skippers are still looking for crew and there will be a crew available sign-up sheet on the club bulletin board. Get out there and have fun this season!
