Thursday, March 5. Life on the Water returns to the Corinthian bringing its newest film, Wander Bird’s Cape Horn Passage, a singular, dramatic re-visioning of 78 year-old film footage, originally taken by Captain Warwick Tompkins Sr. In 1936 Tompkins set sail on the Wander Bird, an 85’ schooner, with his wife, daughter Ann 6 years, and son Warwick Jr, 4 years (and crew) to voyage from Gloucester MA, around Cape Horn to San Francisco. Tompkins Sr filmed the voyage and wrote about it in his book, 50 South to 50 South. Filmmaker Oleg Harencar has edited the footage into a new film with narration by Commodore Tomkins, the boy in the movie who is now 82 and sailing his boat Flash Girl in New Zealand.
